We Can! Energize Our Families: Parent Program - A Leader's Guide

Overview

This guide provides a four lesson curriculum (90 minutes per lesson) with dynamic activities for parents to encourage a healthy weight in their family. The core concept of energy balance is emphasized, i.e., the longterm balance between energy in (calories from food) and energy out (calories burned through activity). The lessons are fun and hands-on, with a focus on helping participants learn essential skills that can help their families increase access to and availability of healthy foods, make healthful food choices, become more physically active, and reduce recreational screen time. Participants are encouraged to try new nutrition and physical activity tips with their families, and they are then asked to share their experiences of trying the new behaviors with the group. NOTE - NHLBI encourages all customers who order the We Can Leader Guide to also order 10 copies of the We Can Family Guide, which can be distributed to your friends, neighbors, co-workers, patients, or others.
