Have you had a heart attack, and do you want to help improve strategies for blood transfusion? The study is comparing two strategies for blood transfusions in heart attack patients who have anemia—whether to give a blood transfusion when the hemoglobin level is less than 10 g/dL, or to give blood only when the blood count is below 8 g/dL. To participate in this study, you must be at least 18 years old, have anemia, and be hospitalized for a heart attack. The study is located in New Brunswick, New Jersey.
Are you scheduled for a stem cell transplant with cord blood? This study will assess the safety and effectiveness of certain cord blood transplants. The study will help researchers learn the best methods for collecting, storing, and using cord blood in transplants. To participate in this study, you must have a disorder that compromises your body’s ability to make blood cells. This study is located in Bethesda, Maryland.
Did you develop atrial fibrillation after coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery? Did you develop atrial fibrillation after a coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) surgery? This study is looking at how well oral anticoagulation medicines work to prevent complications, such as blood clots and heart attack, for patients who experience post-operative atrial fibrillation (POAF). This study is in multiple locations around the country.
Does your child have asthma and go to public school in Richmond, Virginia? This study will test whether a program called RVA Breathes improves the health of children who have asthma. In the program, school nurses and community health workers will help educate you and your family about managing your child’s asthma. They will also try to help reduce things in your home that trigger your child’s asthma or make it worse. To participate in this study, your child must be between 5 and 11 years old and enrolled in a local public school.
Do you or your child have dilated cardiomyopathy? This study aims to investigate the genetic causes of dilated cardiomyopathy to improve early diagnosis and prevention. To participate in this study, you or your child can be any age but must have dilated cardiomyopathy. This study takes place at multiple locations across the United States.
Are you 65 years old or older, and do you have severe primary mitral regurgitation? This condition — also called degenerative mitral regurgitation — happens when there is a problem with the mitral valve itself or its supporting tissue, leading to a leaky valve. This study is comparing the safety and effectiveness of two different ways of repairing the mitral valve: transcatheter edge-to-edge repair and surgical repair. To participate in this study, your healthcare provider must determine that you are a candidate for both mitral valve transcatheter edge-to-edge repair and surgical repair. This study takes place in multiple locations across the United States and Canada.
Are you an adult who has been diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF)? This study will examine whether adding N-acetylcysteine (NAC) to standard treatment improves key indicators of IPF, including symptoms, in people with the TOLLIP rs3750920 TT genotype who are living with the disease. You must be age 40 or older to participate in this study. This study takes place in multiple locations.
