Are you a healthy adult? In this clinical trial, researchers are trying to improve the quality of heart CT scans by using new methods to create the images. Researchers will take normal CT images of the heart and compare those images to super high-resolution images made with a super-computer. Healthy adults aged 18 years or older may be able to participate. The study is taking place at the NIH Clinical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.

Are you at least 18 years old and scheduled for a CT of the chest, abdomen, and pelvis? In this study, researchers want to learn if new CT imaging methods with less radiation make images that are similar to traditional ways. If you are at least 18 and your doctor has said you need a CT scan of the chest, abdomen, or pelvis, you may be able to participate. This study is taking place at the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.

Shift work increases the risk for diabetes possibly due to the adverse metabolic effects of circadian misalignment. As shift work is not foreseen to disappear, the development of individually-targeted therapies for metabolic health in these vulnerable shift workers is urgently needed. This research will determine whether our dietary intervention can mitigate the adverse metabolic effects of circadian misalignment, which may help in the design of evidence-based dietary interventions to improve the metabolic health in shift workers.

Pneumonia is a major public health problem for the elderly and is one of the leading causes of hospitalization and death for this population, particularly for elderly nursing home residents. This planning grants seeks to establish a safe and effective dose of zinc supplementation with the goal to conduct a larger randomized clinical trial to study the effect of zinc supplementation in nursing home elderly with low serum zinc levels on the risk, antibiotic use, and duration of sick days with pneumonia. This project has significant potential to positively impact the health and quality of life in the elderly and to reduce the economic costs associated with their care.

DIVA is a pragmatic randomized clinical trial (RCT) to determine: among (P) preterm infants born 24-27 6/7 weeks gestation undergoing extubation from mechanical ventilation, whether (I) Non-invasive neurally adjusted ventilatory assist (NIV-NAVA) (C) compared with Non-synchronized nasal intermittent positive pressure ventilation (NS-NIPPV), will reduce the incidence of (O) extubation failure within (T) 5 days (120 hours) of extubation.

The goal of the study is to look at the relationship between how individuals with Sarcoidosis take the sarcoidosis medicines and how it affects the disease, to evaluate any factors that may make individuals not want to take the medicines, and to develop and refine ways to help support individuals with Sarcoidosis especially when it comes to the medicines. The overall hypothesis is higher medication adherence will be associated with better clinical outcomes in sarcoidosis. The investigators will enroll 150 patients with biopsy proven pulmonary sarcoidosis for at least one year who are on any oral treatment regimen for at least six months into a 12-month longitudinal study.

The primary purpose of this study is to investigate whether a voice-based platform is better for delivering an electronic health intervention to older adults than a text/typing-based platform. We have an evidence-based electronic health intervention (Elder Tree, ET) that has been shown to improve quality of life, physical and socio-emotional health outcomes for older adults with multiple chronic conditions when delivered via a text/typing-based system. The current project would test whether such patients would benefit even more if ET were delivered via a voice-based system (vs. the text-based system) because they would use it more consistently. ET is an existing intervention providing tools, motivation, and support on a computer platform to help older adults manage their health.

The objective of this study is to investigate the mechanisms of respiratory functional and respiratory motor responses to the scES as an important step toward the long-term goal of developing effective evidence-based rehabilitation strategies for patients with SCI. The central hypothesis is that scES raises the excitability of motor networks for respiration resulting in amplified use-dependent neural plasticity in response to the respiratory training. The rationale for the proposed study is to justify the development of a new direction in respiratory rehabilitation by using respiratory training in combination with electrical spinal cord stimulation.
