Are you 65 years old or older, and do you have severe primary mitral regurgitation? This condition — also called degenerative mitral regurgitation — happens when there is a problem with the mitral valve itself or its supporting tissue, leading to a leaky valve. This study is comparing the safety and effectiveness of two different ways of repairing the mitral valve: transcatheter edge-to-edge repair and surgical repair. To participate in this study, your healthcare provider must determine that you are a candidate for both mitral valve transcatheter edge-to-edge repair and surgical repair. This study takes place in multiple locations across the United States and Canada.

Does your infant have a low platelet count? This study is investigating the safety and efficacy of platelet transfusion as a treatment for infants with thrombocytopenia. Researchers are looking at the positive effects of platelet transfusion against the negative effects, such as the release of inflammatory molecules and the formation of blood clots. To participate in this study, your child must be younger than 6 months old and have a low platelet count (less than 100 × 109/L). This study takes place in Boston, Massachusetts.

Does your infant have a low platelet count? This study investigates immature platelet counts as a marker for bleeding risk in newborns with thrombocytopenia, compared with platelet counts alone. Immature platelets are the most recently produced platelets and may be a better marker of platelet production. To participate in this study, you must have a newborn who is less than 32 weeks’ gestational age, has a birth weight greater than 500 grams, and has a platelet count less than 100 × 109/L. This study takes place in multiple locations in the United States, the Netherlands, and Sweden.

Are you an adult with severe asthma who plans to have bronchial thermoplasty treatment? This study is using a new imaging technique, called optical coherence tomography, to examine the airways in people with asthma before and after a treatment called bronchial thermoplasty. This treatment is minimally invasive and reduces asthma symptoms by using heat to shrink smooth muscle within the lungs. To participate in this survey, you must be between 18 and 60 years old. This study takes place in Boston, Massachusetts.

This study is examining how using continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) to treat sleep apnea affects a person’s blood oxygen levels, heart rate, and quality of sleep. To participate in this study, you must be between 20 and 80 years old with moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea. This study takes place in Boston, Massachusetts.
