Do you have mitral valve disease? This clinical trial is testing different types of images taken of the heart to learn more about mitral valve disease and the best ways to treat it. You must be 60 years old to participate. The study is enrolling patients in locations in Arkansas, California, Georgia, Indiana, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Quebec City, Canada.

Do you have coronary heart disease or are you healthy and would like to participate in research? This study is comparing how well two types of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanners can detect different types of heart diseases, such as coronary heart disease, heart failure, congenital heart disease, and heart valve disease. The new type of MRI scanner in this study uses less energy than a traditional scanner and may be suitable for people who have metal devices in their bodies. This study is located in Bethesda, Maryland.

Are you 65 years old or older, and do you have severe primary mitral regurgitation? This condition — also called degenerative mitral regurgitation — happens when there is a problem with the mitral valve itself or its supporting tissue, leading to a leaky valve. This study is comparing the safety and effectiveness of two different ways of repairing the mitral valve: transcatheter edge-to-edge repair and surgical repair. To participate in this study, your healthcare provider must determine that you are a candidate for both mitral valve transcatheter edge-to-edge repair and surgical repair. This study takes place in multiple locations across the United States and Canada.

Are you an African American woman at risk for diabetes? This study is testing whether using mobile health technology, such as smartphone apps and activity monitors, can help increase physical activity in African American women who are at risk for diabetes. To participate in this study, you must be an African American woman between 25 and 75 years old, have evidence of insulin resistance, and live in Prince George’s County, Maryland, or Ward 5, 7, or 8 in Washington, D.C. This study is located in Bethesda, Maryland.

Do you have a heart or blood vessel disease, such as peripheral artery disease? This study aims to collect data and samples from people who have a heart or blood vessel disease. This may include blood tests, ultrasound exams, and heart and lung tests. Family members and healthy people may also participate. The results may help researchers better understand PAD and other heart and blood vessel diseases. Participants must be at least 2 years old. Women who are pregnant may not take part in some study activities. This study is located in Bethesda, Maryland.

Are you at least 21 years old and have heart failure? In this clinical trial, researchers want to understand why patients with heart failure have trouble exercising and doing some of their daily activities. To take part, you must be taking medication to treat your heart failure for at least 30 days. People without heart failure can also join the study. Participants will have images (MRI) taken as part of the study. The study is taking place in Baltimore, Maryland.

Are you a healthy adult between the ages of 18 and 60? For this study, researchers are testing a new medication to treat a lung injury called pulmonary arterial hypertension. First, researchers will test the medication to see how it affects healthy people. To participate, you must be a healthy adult between the ages of 18 and 60. The study will take place at the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.

The investigators' central hypothesis is that early combination therapy with two PAH-specific oral therapies that have been shown to be well tolerated in the pediatric population, sildenafil and bosentan, will result in better World Health Organization (WHO) functional class at 12 months after initiation of PAH treatment than therapy with sildenafil alone.

Has your doctor recommended right heart cardiac catheterization for you? This study is investigating new magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) techniques that use a guidewire to help position a heart catheter within the heart. MRI fluoroscopy shows pictures of the heart so that doctors can watch while they work. Using the guidewire during MRI may improve the procedure of heart catheterization. To participate in this study, you must be at least 18 years old, and your doctor must have recommended right heart catheterization for you. This study is located in Bethesda, Maryland.
