Are you a Minnesota resident with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy? This study aims to find out how common it is for people with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy to also have sleep apnea. Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is a disease that causes the heart muscle to thicken. Participants will also wear a heart rhythm monitor to help researchers learn whether sleep apnea is linked to arrhythmia. The study seeks healthy volunteers as well as participants in the Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Registry. To participate in this study, you must not have had a catheter ablation procedure to treat atrial fibrillation, had surgery to replace your heart valves, or been treated for sleep apnea. The study is located in Rochester, Minnesota.

Are you an adult with ischemic or non-ischemic cardiomyopathy? This observational study will group and follow patients at a higher risk for sudden cardiac death (SCD) who receive an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) pulse generator replacement as a prevention measure. The study hypothesizes that abnormalities of the heart, some of which are genetically determined, can be used to identify patients at high risk of SCD. To participate in this study, you must be between 18 and 85 years old and have ischemic or non-ischemic cardiomyopathy. You must also be getting your initial ICD implant for primary prevention or a programmed generator replacement if the ICD was originally implanted for SCD primary prevention. The study takes place in Baltimore, Maryland; Richmond, Virginia; and Washington, DC.

Have you been diagnosed with peripartum cardiomyopathy and are within 5 months of your due date? This study is evaluating the effectiveness of a medicine called bromocriptine to treat peripartum cardiomyopathy, or weakness of the heart muscle that occurs during or shortly after pregnancy. To participate in this study, you must be at least 18 years old, diagnosed with peripartum cardiomyopathy, and within 5 months of your delivery date. This study takes place in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Have you recently been diagnosed with Takotsubo Syndrome? This study aims to investigate the short- and long-term effects of takotsubo syndrome, sometimes referred to as broken heart syndrome. Usually, takotsubo syndrome is a temporary heart condition that is caused by either emotional or physical stress. To participate in this study, you must have a new diagnosis of takotsubo syndrome and be at least 18 years old. This study takes place in Providence, Rhode Island.

Are you an adult with ischemic cardiomyopathy? This study is investigating ways to prevent sudden cardiac arrest in people with ischemic cardiomyopathy. Researchers in this study are also working to determine which patients could benefit from an implantable cardioverter defibrillator, a device that is connected to the heart that can detect and stop irregular heartbeats called arrythmias. To participate in this study, you must be 18 years old or older and have ischemic cardiomyopathy. This study takes place in Buffalo, New York.

Do you have coronary artery disease, dilated cardiomyopathy, or left ventricular hypertrophy or want to help people with those conditions? This study is using a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner to measure heart metabolism, which provides the chemical energy that is needed for the heart to function normally. Researchers want to determine whether energy metabolism is reduced in heart failure and whether that contributes to the poor heart function. This study takes place in Baltimore, Maryland.

Do you have coronary heart disease, and are you interested in helping researchers improve how they treat and prevent this condition? This study is exploring new risk factors that may allow for more people with heart disease to get approved for an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD), a device that can detect and stop irregular heartbeats. To participate in this study, you must be 18 years old or older and already have or be eligible for an ICD. This study takes place in Buffalo, New York.

Do you have cardiomyopathy that has led to moderate or severe mitral regurgitation? This study is exploring the best surgical technique to repair mitral regurgitation by comparing two procedures called undersizing mitral annuloplasty (UMA) and papillary muscle approximation (PMA). A UMA is a common procedure that involves implanting a prosthetic ring onto the mitral valve to stop the valve from leaking. A PMA is a newer technique in which a suture draws together the two muscles that connect the mitral valve to the heart muscle prior to performing UMA. To participate in this study, you must be 18 years old or older and have never had a mitral valve repair procedure. This study takes place in Atlanta, Georgia.

Are you an adult whose high blood pressure does not improve with lifestyle changes and medicines? This study will assess whether minocycline, an antibiotic with anti-inflammatory effects, can improve blood pressure control in patients who do not respond to medicines in combination with lifestyle changes, such as physical activity, weight loss, and healthy eating patterns. To participate you must be at least 18 years old and have high blood pressure that does not respond to treatment with three different high blood pressure medicines even when used at the maximum doses. Are you an African American living in Washington, D.C., or Montgomery or Prince Georges counties in Maryland? This study will examine how your genes and health behaviors and where you live and work contribute to your risk of heart disease. To participate you must be between 21 and 65 years old. This study is located in Bethesda, Maryland.
