
The We Can! calendar of events includes information about community events sponsored by We Can! community sites, as well as conferences and meetings that feature We Can! These events help communities and families learn more about We Can! and how to prevent childhood overweight.
4th Annual Children’s Nutrition Education and Physical Activity Exposition
DATE: June 6
DETAILS: More than 1,500 adults and kids are expected at this annual exposition, hosted by We Can! community site and non-profit organization, C.H.O.I.C.E.S (Center Helping Obesity in Children End Successfully), Inc. This year's expo will be held at the Cherokee Recreation Center (7545 Main Street, Woodstock, Georgia).
The Expo starts with a 5K “Walk for Wellness” led by Mayor Donnie Henriques and features activities throughout the day including cooking demos led by celebrity chef and author Marvin Woods; Nintendo Wii and Dance Dance Revolution stations; Atlanta Braves batting cage; Atlanta Hawks basketball drills; free health screenings; and much more. Carson Wellness Association and We Can! Kick-Off "The President's Challenge"

DETAILS: We Can! in Carson—Carson City’s We Can! City initiative—in partnership with the Carson Area Wellness Association and the Carson City Parks and Recreation Department are holding a fundraiser to help the Carson area become more active while giving back to the needy in the community. They are also kicking off "the President’s Challenge," an online program designed to help people of all ages and fitness levels be active in their own way. The kick-off is on Saturday, June 13, at Fuji Park Exhibit hall from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children. The first 50 children and first 50 adults to sign up will receive a free gift. Visit vendors, see great demonstrations, and pick up some freebees. Bring family and friends. Healthy Savannah's Home Run for Health

DETAILS: Join the Coastal Health District at Grayson Stadium during the Savannah Sand Gnats vs. Augusta Green Jackets game as they celebrate the kickoff of Savannah's We Can! City effort and showcase how to make easy and healthy choices! At 6 p.m., warm up on the field with Gnate the Gnat and the Sand Gnats' Team Trainer and also hula-hoop and jump rope at the We Can! Community Field Day stations. The game starts at 7 p.m. There will be free information on increasing physical activity, healthier eating, tobacco prevention, and heat stress reduction, as well as free body mass index and blood pressure screenings! The first 100 fans receive a free "Tobacco is Whacko" drawstring backpack and 100 free kiddie pools will be offered to fans as part of the "Beat the Heat" campaign! We Can! Leaders Training in Lexington, Kentucky
DATE: July 15
DETAILS: If you’re in the Lexington, Kentucky area, consider attending a free We Can! training that will teach you tools and tips to lead your very own 4-week parent series. The training on Wednesday, July 15, from 8:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. will be led by Anita Courtney, We Can! KY Coordinator. It will be held at the Lexington Cooperative Extension Office (For directions, visit http://ces2.ca.uky.edu/fayette/Directions).
Registration is limited to 100 participants. To pre-register go to http://ky.train.org. You’ll need to create a "train" account, which only takes a few minutes. The course identification number for the Web site is 1017335. If you plan to attend the training, please print the We Can! parent curriculum, put the curriculum in a 3-ring binder and bring to the workshop. You can find the curriculum at the end of the training registration process.
We Can! Leaders Training in Jamestown, Kentucky

DETAILS: If you can’t make the training in Lexington, consider attending a free We Can! training in Jamestown, Kentucky, that will teach you tools and tips to lead your very own 4-week series for parents. The training on Wednesday, July 22, from 8:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. will be led by Anita Courtney, We Can! KY Coordinator. It will be held at the Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery (For directions, visit http://www.fws.gov/wolfcreek/wolf_map.html).
Registration is limited to 30 participants, and there is no fee to attend. To pre-register, please contact Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery Environmental Education/Outreach Specialist Amanda Patrick at 270-343-3797 or via e-mail at Amanda_Patrick@fws.gov. Snacks and refreshments will be provided, so please remember to pre-register.
