The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) is hosting a 1-hour webinar titled “Adolescent Screen Use and Cardiovascular Disease Risk” on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. ET.

In this one-hour webinar, Dr. Jason Nagata, MD, MSc, will present his research and ideas on “Adolescent Screen Use and Cardiovascular Disease Risk.” He will present findings from the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) Study to highlight contemporary trends in adolescent digital media use and physical activity behaviors, including during the COVID-19 pandemic, and show prospective associations between contemporary screen modalities, body mass index, and binge-eating disorder. In addition to the results from the ABCD Study, Dr. Nagata will also present prospective analyses of screen time and cardiovascular disease risk factors from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent to Adult Health and the Coronary Artery Risk Development in Young Adulthood Study to inform health guidance.  Dr. Nagata is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of California, San Francisco, specializing in adolescent and young adult medicine. He has published over 250 articles in journals such as JAMA and The Lancet, and his work has been covered by national media including NBC News, NPR, USA Today, TIME Magazine, CNN, and US News. Dr. Nagata is the recipient of the American Academy of Pediatrics Emerging Leader in Adolescent Health Award and the International Association for Adolescent Health Young Professionals Prize.
