Dr. Araki is a hematologist-oncologist whose research is dedicated to unraveling the intricacies of hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) biology and advancing HSC gene therapy. His work focuses on optimizing HSC engraftment and reducing the toxicities associated with conventional pre-transplant conditioning regimens, with the ultimate goal of improving patient outcomes in hematological disorders.
Dr. Araki earned his M.D. from Kanazawa University in Japan in 2009. Following two years of clinical internships in Japan, he furthered his training at the U.S. Naval Hospital Okinawa. In pursuit of expanding his expertise, he completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Washington, Seattle in 2015, followed by a fellowship in hematology and medical oncology at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in 2018. Since 2017, Dr. Araki has been conducting postdoctoral research in Dr. Larochelle's laboratory at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI). Initially joining as a clinical fellow, he continues to drive translational research as a Staff Clinician, focusing on innovative approaches to hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.
