Alessandra Brofferio, MD

Biography

Dr. Alessandra Brofferio is an Associate Research Physician in the Cardiovascular Branch of NHLBI. As a clinician, she heads the Cardiology consult Service at the NIH. Her research interest is on rare vascular diseases. 

Dr. Alessandra Brofferio is the Director of the Cardiology Consult Service and an attending physician working in the Echocardiography Laboratory.  She obtained her medical degree from University of Bologna, Italy and completed her internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Jacobi Medical Center of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. She then completed her Cardiology Fellowships and an additional Imaging Cardiology Fellowship at Geisinger Medical Center, PA. She joined the Cardiovascular Branch of NHLBI, NIH in 2010 as a Staff Clinician, invested in cardiology consultation and echocardiography. She became the Director of the Cardiology Consult Service in 2023. Her research within the branch focuses on rare vascular diseases, but she also supports research with multiple groups, from different Institutes of the NIH.
