My-Le Nguyen, M.D.

Director

Lieutenant Commander My-Le Nguyen serves as Director of the Echocardiography Laboratory in the Division of Intramural Research at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI). She leads a team of medical and technical experts to provide advanced echocardiographic imaging and interpretation in support of clinical care and translational cardiovascular research across NIH.

Dr. Nguyen earned her medical degree from Penn State College of Medicine, completed her Internal Medicine residency at the University of Maryland Medical Center, and her Cardiology fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. She is board-certified in cardiovascular disease, echocardiography, and nuclear cardiology.

Since joining NIH in 2019, Dr. Nguyen has established herself as a leader in echocardiography, with particular expertise in myocardial strain imaging. Her work has contributed to peer-reviewed publications and multidisciplinary collaborations across NIH. She has also led global health initiatives, including point-of-care ultrasound training in Vietnam and educational programs supporting international CAR T-cell research partnerships.

Dr. Nguyen is an active-duty officer in the United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps. Since her commission in 2020, she has deployed in support of national public health missions, including the COVID-19 response, and has received multiple service awards recognizing her leadership and contributions.
