Have you been diagnosed with LAM? This study is trying to understand the genes and proteins that are responsible for causing lung damage in patients with LAM. To participate in this study, you must be between 16 and 99 years old and diagnosed with LAM. This study is located in Bethesda, Maryland.

This study is exploring how different diagnostic tests can help us understand how lipid disorders, including high blood cholesterol, affect the body. Did you recently give birth to a very low birth weight infant?
The study is investigating how anemia and red blood cell transfusions affect oxygen levels in the digestive tract of very low birth weight infants. To participate in this study, your newborn must have had a very low birth weight and be within seven days of birth. The study is taking place in Atlanta, Georgia.

Have you had a heart attack, and do you want to help improve strategies for blood transfusion?
The study is comparing two strategies for blood transfusions in heart attack patients who have anemia—whether to give a blood transfusion when the hemoglobin level is less than 10 g/dL, or to give blood only when the blood count is below 8 g/dL. To participate in this study, you must be at least 18 years old, have anemia, and be hospitalized for a heart attack. The study is located in New Brunswick, New Jersey.

Do you or your child have a lung disease? This study will investigate the genes involved in the breathing process and in the development of lung diseases such as asthma or sarcoidosis to improve understanding of the role they play. To participate in this study, you or your child must be between 2 and 90 years old. This study is located in Bethesda, Maryland, at the NIH Clinical Center.

Are you an adult whose high blood pressure does not improve with lifestyle changes and medicines?
This study will assess whether minocycline, an antibiotic with anti-inflammatory effects, can improve blood pressure control in patients who do not respond to medicines in combination with lifestyle changes, such as physical activity, weight loss, and healthy eating patterns. To participate you must be at least 18 years old and have high blood pressure that does not respond to treatment with three different high blood pressure medicines even when used at the maximum doses. Please note that this study is in Gainesville, Florida.

Do you or one of your children have a congenital heart defect?
This study will find both common genetic causes of congenital heart disease and ways that genes influence results of medical treatment. To participate in this study, you or your child must have congenital heart disease. This study is located in Los Angeles, Palo Alto, and San Francisco, California; New Haven, Connecticut; Boston, Massachusetts; New York and Rochester, New York; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and Salt Lake City, Utah.
