Have you had a heart attack, and do you want to help improve strategies for blood transfusion? The study is comparing two strategies for blood transfusions in heart attack patients who have anemia—whether to give a blood transfusion when the hemoglobin level is less than 10 g/dL, or to give blood only when the blood count is below 8 g/dL. To participate in this study, you must be at least 18 years old, have anemia, and be hospitalized for a heart attack. The study is located in New Brunswick, New Jersey.

Are you scheduled for a stem cell transplant with cord blood? This study will assess the safety and effectiveness of certain cord blood transplants. The study will help researchers learn the best methods for collecting, storing, and using cord blood in transplants. To participate in this study, you must have a disorder that compromises your body’s ability to make blood cells. This study is located in Bethesda, Maryland.

Do you have high blood pressure, and do you receive care at a community-based clinic in the South? This study will explore an intensive high blood pressure management approach at participating community-based clinics. The approach aims to lower participants’ systolic blood pressure to 120 mm Hg. To participate in this study, you must be at least 40 years old, understand English, and not be pregnant. The study is located in Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi.

Are you an adult with high blood pressure who receives medical care from a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC)? This study is testing intervention strategies to help people from underserved communities lower their blood pressure and prevent cardiovascular disease. To participate in this study, you must be 40 years old or older and have high blood pressure that puts you at risk for cardiovascular diseases such as stroke or heart failure. This study takes place in New Orleans, Louisiana, and Biloxi, Mississippi.

Were you or your child recently diagnosed with VTE? This study is testing a six-week course of blood-thinning medicines for the treatment of venous thromboembolisms (VTE) to see if they are as effective as the standard treatment course of three months. To participate in this study, you or your child must be younger than 21 years old. This study has 54 locations in Alabama, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Wisconsin, Australia, Austria, Canada, Israel, and the Netherlands.

Do you have a ventricular arrhythmia? This study aims to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of low-energy shocks for the treatment of ventricular tachycardia and ventricular fibrillation. This approach will be tested during a catheter ablation or placement of an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD). To participate in this study, you must be between 18 and 75 years old. This study is located in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Austin, Texas.

Do you or your child have severe sickle cell disease and also know a half-matched bone marrow donor? This study is seeking to improve bone marrow transplantation success from half-matched donors by testing a different conditioning procedure that uses a variety of medicines to prepare for the transplant. To participate in this study, you must be 15 to 45 years old and have severe sickle cell disease or have a child 5 to 14 years old who has had a stroke. This study is located in many sites across the United States, including Miami, Florida, and St. Louis, Missouri.

Did you develop atrial fibrillation after coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery? Did you develop atrial fibrillation after a coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) surgery? This study is looking at how well oral anticoagulation medicines work to prevent complications, such as blood clots and heart attack, for patients who experience post-operative atrial fibrillation (POAF). This study is in multiple locations around the country.

Are you an adult with sickle cell disease? This study aims to determine whether monthly exchange blood transfusions (removing blood and replacing it with transfused red blood cells) can improve health and prevent or reduce the number of pain crises. To participate in this study, you must be at least 18 years old, have sickle cell disease, and have not been on a chronic exchange transfusion program for at least 2 months. This study is located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Do you have heart failure and depression? This study aims to see whether stepped care for depression helps people who have heart failure manage their care (follow heart-healthy lifestyle recommendations and take their prescribed medicines). Participants will either receive usual care for depression or take part in cognitive behavioral therapy, where they work with a mental health counselor to learn ways to manage symptoms and cope with challenging situations. Certain participants may then be referred for antidepressant medicines. All participants will then receive heart failure education. To participate in this study, you must be at least 25 years old and diagnosed with heart failure and major depressive disorder. This study is located in Saint Louis, Missouri.
