Are you or your child between the ages of 3 and 21 and experiencing pain episodes? This study tests a treatment called arginine therapy for pain episodes in children with sickle cell disease. Researchers are investigating how safe and effective this treatment is, as well as how arginine is metabolized in the body and its effects on cells. To participate in this study, you or your child must have sickle cell disease and pain that requires medical attention. This study takes place in multiple locations in the United States.

This study is evaluating the use of video telehealthcare to help adolescents and young adults with asthma take their medication correctly and on time. Do you or your child have primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD) or primary immune deficiency (PID)? This study aims to identify genes that cause these two conditions, which can have similar symptoms. The results from this study will help researchers find new ways to treat breathing and hearing problems caused by these two conditions in a cross-sectional cohort of patients with PCD and PID. Participants in this study must be 5 to 45 years old. This study is taking place at multiple locations in the United States and in Canada.

Do you or your child have symptoms of a serious lung disease but no diagnosis? This study aims to develop new ways to diagnose primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD) and primary immune deficiency (PID), two conditions that can have similar symptoms. Researchers will combine information from genetic testing, lung imaging, and lung function tests to diagnose ant tell the difference between these two conditions. Participants in this study must be 5 to 45 years old. This study is taking place at multiple locations in the United States and in Canada.

Do you have a child 2 years or younger who has had surgery to treat myelomeningocele (MMC)? Sleep – disordered breathing (SBD) is common in infants and young children who have brain and spinal cord issues, including MMC, a serious type of spina bifida. This study is testing whether treating MMC by surgery before or after birth can help lower the risk of SBD. The study will also examine the link between SBD and brain development. This study takes place in multiple locations in the United States.

Do you or one of your children have a congenital heart defect? This study will find both common genetic causes of congenital heart disease and ways that genes influence results of medical treatment. To participate in this study, you or your child must have congenital heart disease. This study is located in Los Angeles, Palo Alto, and San Francisco, California; New Haven, Connecticut; Boston, Massachusetts; New York and Rochester, New York; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and Salt Lake City, Utah.

Are you between 40 and 85 with worsening idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis? This study aims to test a new combination treatment for acute exacerbations, a life-threatening complication of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) that has no approved treatment. The treatment is meant to help stop part of the immune system from further injuring the lung tissue. To participate in this study, you must be between 40 and 85 years old and have worsening IPF. This study is located in Birmingham, Alabama; Boston, Massachusetts; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
