Do you or your child have overweight or obesity? This study aims to find effective ways to prevent and treat obesity and metabolic syndrome in African American communities. The study will test the effectiveness of a family-based comprehensive health and fitness programs involving community health workers. Participants must be 12 years old or older and African American and have overweight or obesity. This study takes place in Charleston, South Carolina.

Does your child have higher triglyceride levels but normal cholesterol levels? This study is testing whether a protein supplement called carnitine can help prevent blood vessel stiffness in teenagers who have metabolic syndrome or other risk factors for heart and blood vessel diseases. Participants in this study must be between 13 and 19 years old and have moderate to high blood triglyceride levels but normal blood cholesterol levels. This study takes place in Houston, Texas.

Do you have overweight or obesity and are not in a weight management program? This study is investigating whether self-weighing, combined with follow-up encouragement, promotes weight loss and use of weight management resources. To participate in this study, you must be between 18 and 70 and overweight or obese and with weight-related comorbidity (hypertension, type II diabetes, pre-diabetes, dyslipidemia, sleep apnea). Does your child have overweight or obesity? This study is exploring the link between obesity and sleep deprivation in children. Researchers will test whether participants who do not get enough good quality sleep have trouble making healthy food choices. Are you an adult with obesity and at high risk of heart and blood vessel disease? This study is testing a new program to help people who have obesity stick to their healthy eating plan. Researchers from this study are developing a program that will predict when participants are most likely to stop making healthy food choices and will send messages to remind participants of their weight loss goals. To participate in this study, you must be 18 to 70 years old, have overweight or obesity, and be at high risk of heart and blood vessel diseases. This study takes place in Providence, Rhode Island.

Are you between 18 and 50 and have obesity? This study is examining whether obesity causes chemical changes to DNA that affect the amounts of certain proteins that your body makes. These changes in protein levels may raise the risk of heart and blood vessel diseases in people who have obesity. The study will test whether regular physical activity and weight loss surgery can help reverse these changes to DNA. This study takes place in Chicago, Illinois.

FIT Families is a 6-month family-based program that involves home visits by community health workers. Are you an adult with sleep apnea, overweight, or obesity, or do you just want to help research? This study is looking at how sleep apnea changes fat tissue in the body. The researchers will examine whether these changes in fat tissue may raise the risk of heart and blood vessel diseases. To participate in this study, you must be between 18 and 60 years old with obstructive sleep apnea and healthy without any chronic diseases. This study takes place in Rochester, Minnesota.
