The purpose of this study is to understand the causes of heart disease and stroke in South Asians and compare these causes to those in other United States ethnic groups.

South Asian (Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Nepali, and Sri Lankan) individuals have high rates of cardiovascular disease that is not explained by traditional cardiovascular risk factors. Though South Asians represent over one-quarter of the world's population, there are no longitudinal studies in this high-risk ethnic group. The investigators aim to establish a longitudinal study of South Asians at three United States centers to identify risk factors linked to subclinical atherosclerosis and incident cardiovascular disease. The purpose of this study is to understand the causes of heart disease and stroke in South Asians and compare these causes to those in other United States ethnic groups.

Do you have post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or have experienced a psychosocial trauma, or want to help research? This study uses positron emission tomography/magnetic resonance imaging (PET/MRI) to look at the relationship between psychosocial stress and systemic inflammation/atherosclerosis. The goal of this project is to improve risk-stratification for patients who present to the emergency department (ED) with syncope (transient loss of consciousness), in order to better delineate which patients require admission and which can be safely discharged home. Syncope and pre-syncope (the sensation of impending loss of consciousness) are common reasons to present to the ED, representing over 1.3 million visits per year in the United States.

The study objective is to compare neurodevelopmental (ND) and behavioral outcomes between children with Down syndrome (DS) who had complete atrioventricular septal defect (CAVSD) repair and children from the same clinical sites with DS without major congenital heart disease (CHD) requiring previous or planned CHD surgery.

PREVENTABLE is a multi-center, randomized, parallel group, placebo-controlled superiority study. Participants will be randomized 1:1 to atorvastatin 40 mg or placebo. This is a prospective, multi-center, randomized effectiveness trial of the CardioGard Embolic Protection Cannula in high-risk valve surgery patients.

Do you have depression symptoms and have been diagnosed with coronary heart disease? This study aims to find out whether an online tool can help improve symptoms of depression in people who have coronary heart disease and encourage them to start treatment for depression. To participate in this study, you must be at least 21 years old and have symptoms of depression and a history of coronary heart disease. This study is located in New York, New York.

Are you an adult who has had a heart CT or PET scan? This study is using new software to combine information from two imaging tests (computed tomography [CT] and positron emission tomography [PET] scans) to noninvasively measure blood flow in the heart. To participate in this study, you must be 18 years of age or older. You must have also received at least one of three prior tests for coronary artery disease: invasive cardiac catheterization, CT angiogram (CTA), or cardiac PET. This study takes place in Atlanta, Georgia.
