Are you an adult who has asthma, or are you willing to be a healthy volunteer? This study is looking at the DNA in airway cells to see how they differ between people who have asthma and people who do not. To get a sample of cells from your airways, you may have a bronchoscopy (a tube inserted through your mouth into your airways). To participate in this study, you must be between 18 and 70 years old, either with asthma or with no history of asthma. This study is located in San Francisco, California.

Do you have asthma and obesity and live near Aurora, Colorado? Obesity can lead to widespread inflammation that may make asthma worse. This study will test whether a medicine called CXA-10 reduces inflammation in the airways and body and improves asthma symptoms in people who have obesity. To participate in this study, you must be between 18 and 65 years old, have a BMI of 30 or greater, and have been on long-acting controller medicine—such as inhaled corticosteroids or long-acting beta2-agonists—for at least three months. This study is located in Aurora, Colorado.

Are you an adult with both asthma and obesity? This study is testing whether a medicine called L-citrulline can help treat asthma and improve lung function in people who have obesity. Has your child been treated for an asthma attack with an oral corticosteroid medicine in the last 12 months? A study team will recruit 60 teens and young adults (between 12 and 21 years old) with persistent asthma who are at high risk for future exacerbation. This study examines the contribution of interleukin 1 beta (IL-1β), a protein that is involved in the inflammatory response, in asthma flare-ups. This study takes place in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

Are you a woman who is postmenopausal or a man older than 65? This study will investigate the effects of oral progesterone for older women and testosterone for older men on QT intervals. QT intervals that are increased by medicine can lead to dangerous heart rhythm problems. Researchers hope to learn more about why this happens and how to deliver safer doses. Are you a former smoker with COPD? Researchers are studying whether taking aspirin can help with COPD symptoms. Participants must be at least 40 years old, be diagnosed with COPD, and have a history of smoking at least 10 packs of cigarettes a year. The study is taking place in Baltimore, Maryland.

Are you a smoker with COPD who is willing to use an e-cigarette to reduce how much you smoke? If so, you may be able to participate in a study that is trying to learn more about the effect of switching from smoking cigarettes to using e-cigarettes on COPD symptoms. You may be able to participate if you are 21 to 74 years old, have mild to moderate COPD, and are willing to try e-cigarettes to cut back on your smoking. Have you received treatment from a doctor for COPD that has gotten worse and have you been referred for pulmonary rehabilitation, which can help ease the symptoms of COPD.? In this study, researchers are comparing two ways to encourage people to participate in pulmonary rehabilitation. Participants must be at least 40 years old and be willing to participate in calls with a peer coach and view videos. The study is taking place in Springfield, Massachusetts.
