Are you considering a blood stem cell transplant?
This study is investigating a new method for collecting blood stem cells from donors to see if it reduces transplant complications, such as rejection, in patients who have blood diseases. To participate in this study, you must have a well-matched donor; you and your donor must be between 4 and 80 years old; and you must not be a candidate for immunosuppressive therapy. This study is located in Bethesda, Maryland.

Do you or a family member have Diamond-Blackfan anemia?
This registry seeks to collect information from patients who have Diamond-Blackfan anemia (DBA), in order to help researchers and doctors learn more about the condition. The registry will also help connect patients with DBA to research and clinical studies, and possible treatment options. The registry accepts all patients diagnosed with DBA.

Do you have short telomeres and a telomere gene mutation?
Some people who have aplastic anemia have very short telomeres, which protect the ends of DNA in chromosomes. This study is testing whether low doses of the medicine danazol help prevent telomeres from getting shorter and reduce signs of damage from aplastic anemia or related conditions. Participants in this study must be 3 years or older and have a telomere disease and signs of aplastic anemia, lung disease such as pulmonary fibrosis, or liver disease. This study is located in Bethesda, Maryland.

Have you received a stem cell transplant?
This study aims to monitor the long-term health of patients who have received a donor stem cell transplant from the NIH Clinical Center. To participate in this study, you must be between 10 and 80 years old and had your transplant more than 3 years ago. This study is located in Bethesda, Maryland.

Are you scheduled for a stem cell transplant with cord blood?
This study will assess the safety and effectiveness of certain cord blood transplants. The study will help researchers learn the best methods for collecting, storing, and using cord blood in transplants. To participate in this study, you must have a disorder that compromises your body’s ability to make blood cells. This study is located in Bethesda, Maryland.

Would you like to donate blood for a study of stored red blood cells?
This study is evaluating how blood donors affect the stability of stored red blood cells. After collecting a blood sample from a healthy donor, researchers treat the red blood cells with a B vitamin called biotin and then store the sample. After about 1 week, some of the cells are transfused back into the donor to check how many of the red blood cells are still healthy after storage. After a few more weeks, more of the stored cells are transfused and tested again. To participate, your blood must meet certain requirements and you must be healthy, 18 years old or older, and weigh at least 110 pounds. This study is located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Are you an adult with ischemic or non-ischemic cardiomyopathy? This observational study will group and follow patients at a higher risk for sudden cardiac death (SCD) who receive an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) pulse generator replacement as a prevention measure. The study hypothesizes that abnormalities of the heart, some of which are genetically determined, can be used to identify patients at high risk of SCD. To participate in this study, you must be between 18 and 85 years old and have ischemic or non-ischemic cardiomyopathy. You must also be getting your initial ICD implant for primary prevention or a programmed generator replacement if the ICD was originally implanted for SCD primary prevention. The study takes place in Baltimore, Maryland; Richmond, Virginia; and Washington, DC.

Are you an adult with ischemic cardiomyopathy? This study is investigating ways to prevent sudden cardiac arrest in people with ischemic cardiomyopathy. Researchers in this study are also working to determine which patients could benefit from an implantable cardioverter defibrillator, a device that is connected to the heart that can detect and stop irregular heartbeats called arrythmias. To participate in this study, you must be 18 years old or older and have ischemic cardiomyopathy. This study takes place in Buffalo, New York.

Are you a woman who is postmenopausal or a man older than 65? This study will investigate the effects of oral progesterone for older women and testosterone for older men on QT intervals. QT intervals that are increased by medicine can lead to dangerous heart rhythm problems. Researchers hope to learn more about why this happens and how to deliver safer doses. This study is located in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Do you have coronary heart disease, and are you interested in helping researchers improve how they treat and prevent this condition? This study is exploring new risk factors that may allow for more people with heart disease to get approved for an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD), a device that can detect and stop irregular heartbeats. To participate in this study, you must be 18 years old or older and already have or be eligible for an ICD. This study takes place in Buffalo, New York.
