Is your child black and 8 to 11 years old? This study is testing a way of enhancing sleep in children with the goal of preventing obesity. To participate in this study, your child must be 8 to 11 years old and must be black or African American. This study is located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Are you pregnant with a BMI of 25 or higher? This study will evaluate different combinations of counseling during and after pregnancy on issues related to weight gain in pregnancy, including nutrition, physical activity, and mental health. To participate in this study, you must be at least 14 years old, be no more than 18 weeks and four days pregnant, and have had a body mass index (BMI) of 25 or higher before becoming pregnant. This study takes place in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Do you or your child have overweight or obesity? This study aims to find effective ways to prevent and treat obesity and metabolic syndrome in African American communities. The study will test the effectiveness of a family-based comprehensive health and fitness programs involving community health workers. Participants must be 12 years old or older and African American and have overweight or obesity. This study takes place in Charleston, South Carolina.

Does your child have higher triglyceride levels but normal cholesterol levels? This study is testing whether a protein supplement called carnitine can help prevent blood vessel stiffness in teenagers who have metabolic syndrome or other risk factors for heart and blood vessel diseases. Participants in this study must be between 13 and 19 years old and have moderate to high blood triglyceride levels but normal blood cholesterol levels. This study takes place in Houston, Texas.

Researchers will test whether participants who do not get enough good quality sleep have trouble making healthy food choices. Does your teen not get the recommended amounts of healthy food and physical activity? This study is testing a new program to improve diet and exercise in Hispanic parents and their teenagers. The new treatment program will provide participants with information on healthy lifestyle changes. Participants will also be assigned to a coach who will provide support and monitor the family’s progress. Participants in this study must be at least 12 years old, Hispanic, and not getting the recommended amounts of healthy foods and exercise. This study takes place in Miami, Florida.

Does your child have overweight or obesity? This study is testing whether a treatment program called FIT Families can help treat obesity in African American teenagers. FIT Families is a 6-month family-based program that involves home visits by community health workers. Participants in this study must be 12 to 17 years old, African American, and diagnosed with obesity. This study is located in South Carolina.

Does your child have overweight or obesity or just want to be in a study on sleep and eating habits? Overweight and obesity are common in children who do not get enough good quality sleep. This study aims to understand how sleep deficiency can affect a child’s ability to make good food choices. Researchers will ask participants to spend either 8 or 11 hours in bed and to keep track of their food choices. Participants in this study must be 8 to 12 years old. Do you or your child have a platelet, bleeding, or white blood cell disorder? This study is looking at people who have platelet or other blood disorders. The researchers will use a blood sample to look for problems with platelets and a possible genetic cause in the participant’s DNA or RNA. To participate in this study, you must be a child or adult who either is healthy or has a platelet disorder, coagulation disorder, or white blood cell disorder. This study is located in New York, New York.

Does your infant have a low platelet count? This study is investigating the safety and efficacy of platelet transfusion as a treatment for infants with thrombocytopenia. Researchers are looking at the positive effects of platelet transfusion against the negative effects, such as the release of inflammatory molecules and the formation of blood clots. To participate in this study, your child must be younger than 6 months old and have a low platelet count (less than 100 × 109/L). This study takes place in Boston, Massachusetts.
