Description
Dr. Sung is an Associate Professor of Biostatistics at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. Her experience is in the fields of statistics, data, and medical genetics. Dr. Sung is drawn to research that explores the genomic underpinning of human complex diseases. She has used her expertise to develop novel statistical methods that pay particular attention to their applicability to real data. For instance, she developed a Monte Carlo method to approximate the maximum likelihood estimate when the likelihood is not available in closed form. Dr. Sung’s recent work has focused on deciphering the genetic and environmental architecture of cardiometabolic traits by incorporating gene-environment (GxE) interactions. This research will greatly contribute to our understanding of the pathogenesis of cardiovascular disease which may have important implications for personalized medicine. She is currently a member of the Cohorts for Heart and Aging Research in Genomic Epidemiology (CHARGE) Consortium, Pharmacogenomics and Gene-Lifestyle Working Groups. Dr. Sung’s work has been supported by NHLBI.
