Researchers identify new lung cells

Researchers identified a population of human lung cells that may reveal clues to dysfunction in certain conditions, like chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

In a paper published in Nature, the researchers describe the newly identified respiratory airway secretory cells. They also note the role these cells have in supporting lung function, while noting future opportunities to study their alterations in lung disease.

The research was supported by NHLBI.
