After pairing heart scans with a person’s medical history, researchers created an algorithm to identify patients at greatest risk for sudden cardiac death from an arrhythmia, an irregular heart rhythm.
The authors envision this tool, which provided insight about 10-year risks and survival rates, could help clinicians identify patients at greatest risk for sudden cardiac death. That information could then help inform decisions about patients who may benefit most from increased medical support, such as receiving an implantable cardioverter defibrillator.
The study, partially supported by NHLBI, published in Nature Cardiovascular Research.
