Obesity may lead to sudden cardiac arrest among the young

An NHLBI-funded study found that obesity and other common cardiovascular risk factors such as hypertension, high cholesterol, diabetes, and smoking play a greater role in sudden cardiac arrest among younger people than previously recognized. The findings, published in Circulation, a journal of the American Heart Association, underscore the importance of earlier screening. Sudden cardiac arrest is a disorder that can cause instantaneous death.
