Blood pressure above normal range could signal hypertension at any age

An NHLBI-funded study showed a similar trajectory for the development of hypertension during adulthood: A stable systolic (top) blood pressure that began to exceed the normal range, 120-125 mmHg, and then rose relatively rapidly to hypertension. The findings appeared in the journal of JAMA Cardiology.

According to the researchers, regularly exceeding 120-125 mmHg could signal impending hypertension, regardless of age. These results are in line with the recently updated American College of Cardiology and American Heart Association high blood pressure guidelines, which categorize high blood pressure as greater than 130/80 mmHg.
