Steps to become a We Can! General Community Site

• Download and review Get Involved Materials, specifically We Can! curricula and community event information
• Review Guidelines for We Can! General Community Sites
• Complete the We Can! General Community Site Activity Form
• Implement selected curricula and/or community events
• Share your experiences implementing We Can! by completing a brief summary form

1. Download and review We Can! Materials
   
   Review and download program materials from Get Involved Materials.  Materials can be used to plan, promote and implement your We Can! programs. Becoming familiar with these materials will give you a feel for the tone of the program and the tools available to assist your efforts.

2. Review Guidelines for We Can! Community Sites
   
   We Can! General Community Sites are encouraged to complete at least two of the following three activities within one year of signing up:
   1. Implement at least one We Can! youth curriculum.
   2. Implement the We Can! parent curriculum at least once.
   3. Hold at least one We Can! community-outreach event, such as a community health fair.

3. Submit the online We Can! General Community Site Activity Form
   
   
   
   Once your form is received, you will be shipped a We Can! Community Site Starter Kit which contains one free copy of the following materials:
   1. The We Can! Community Toolkit: We Can! Energize Our Community: Toolkit for Action
   2. The We Can! Program Poster: Who can make it happen? We Can!
   3. The We Can! Brochure
   4. The We Can! Parent Handbook: Families Finding the Balance: A Parent Handbook
   5. The We Can! Parent Handbook: Cómo las Familias Encuentran el Equilibrio:  Un Manual Para los Padres de Familia (Spanish version)
   6. The We Can! wristband (one adult-size and one child-size bracelet)
   7. The We Can! Products & Order Information Form
   8. The We Can! General Community Site Summary Form
   
   Your site will be listed as a General Community Site in the Find
   We Can! Community Sites section of this Web site.

4. Implement selected curricula and community events.
   
   Implement youth and/or parent programming and/or host a We Can! community-outreach event. A comprehensive listing of ideas for community events can be found in Appendix A of the We Can! Energize Our Community: Toolkit for Action. These Toolkit ideas are based on first-hand experiences and successes with planning and implementing community events, including suggested prizes and giveaways as incentives for participants.  Ideas include movie screenings, a "health-o-ween" party, developing a community healthy cookbook, and community health fairs.

5. Share your experiences implementing We Can! with the We Can! team by completing and submitting a brief summary form
   
   Tell us about your efforts! Complete the We Can! General Community Site Summary Form to share your community's We Can! activities. Please print and complete this PDF form and fax it in to the NHLBI Information Center at (240) 629-3246.
