Description
The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) is pleased to announce a 2-day virtual workshop dedicated to advancing research and collaboration in non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis (NCFB). This event will bring together national and international experts, early-career investigators, and patient advocates to share state-of-the-art science, identify research gaps, and set priorities for the future of NCFB research.
Bronchiectasis is a chronic, progressive lung disease that remains underdiagnosed, undertreated, and poorly understood, despite rising prevalence and significant health impacts. The need for innovation is critical—there are no fully approved treatments for NCFB, and clinical management remains challenging due to disease heterogeneity.
This workshop will focus on the following:
- Defining key mechanistic and clinical questions in NCFB;
- Highlighting pediatric and adult research priorities;
- Understanding disease heterogeneity, comorbidities, and endotypes;
- Uncovering genetic, immunological, and microbiological drivers of disease;
- Exploring novel diagnostics, biomarkers, and artificial intelligence (AI)/machine learning (ML) approaches;
- Advancing emerging therapeutics and designing next-generation clinical trials; and
- Promoting patient engagement, advocacy, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
Join us as we work to chart a path toward transformative therapies, improved clinical outcomes, and a robust research agenda for NCFB.
