Postdoctoral Fellow
The Organization
The Epidemiology and Community Health Branch (ECHB) of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) is recruiting a postdoctoral fellow with training in epidemiology to join the ECHB under the mentorship of Véronique Roger.
The mission of the Epidemiology and Community Health Branch (ECHB) is to deploy innovative multimodality ascertainment and analytical approaches with a unifying focus on the phenotypic expressions of heart, lung, blood and sleep (HLBS) diseases, their occurrence and outcomes in populations. The ECHB leverages interdisciplinary collaborations and apply methods grounded in epidemiology, population “omics’, and health services delivery research. In doing so, the ECHB works on elucidating the mechanisms of HLBS diseases while evaluating the intersection of HLBS diseases with aging, multimorbidity, equity and social determinants of health in diverse populations. The Laboratory of Heart Disease Phenomics focuses on defining clinical and biological heart disease phenotypes, their determinants, and associated outcomes in populations with the goal of advancing treatment and prevention.
The Role
Dr. Roger is leading multiple investigations focused on heart failure phenomics by applying novel methods critical to contemporary epidemiology. Dr. Roger is seeking applications for postdoctoral fellow to work on the following potential areas:
- Descriptive epidemiology of heart failure and other forms of cardiovascular diseases
- Etiologic and molecular epidemiologic studies leveraging multi-omics of heart failure and other forms of cardiovascular diseases
- Cohort and consortia analyses of cardiovascular diseases
- Studies of health disparities in cardiovascular disease
The work required for this position includes data management, analysis, development and/or implementation of novel analytical strategies and bioinformatics tools and the interpretation and presentation of results at national and international scientific meetings. Candidates will develop and apply optimal analytic strategies and will benefit from experience with large clinical and epidemiologic datasets. In addition, candidates should have a strong background in statistical programming, critical thinking and writing. Background knowledge and research experience related to cardiometabolic disease is a plus. Salary and benefits are highly competitive and commensurate with experience
About You
- Have an M.D. or doctoral degree in epidemiology, biostatistics, or related discipline.
- Have less than five years of relevant postdoctoral (or equivalent) experience.
- In addition to strong quantitative and writing skills, familiarity with the applications R, SAS, or other statistical programming software to cardiovascular diseases, multi-omics, and health data is preferred.
Application
Please send a cover letter, curriculum vitae including bibliography, and the names/contact information of three references (and any questions) to Merry Peters (merry.peters@nih.gov)
