Valerie Prenger

Dr. Valerie Prenger is Acting Director for DERA, having served as DERA’s Deputy Director since 2019, and previously as Director of the Office of Scientific Review. In her new role, she will provide scientific and grants management leadership while overseeing extramural research and training programs spanning the Institute’s entire research portfolio and encompassing basic, clinical, translational, and population-based efforts. After serving on the University of Maryland School of Medicine faculty, Dr. Prenger joined NHLBI after serving on multiple peer review panels.
