Biography

Dr. Patel is an Associate Research Physician at NHLBI. She joined Hematology Branch in 2018 after completion of her fellowship at Washington Hospital Center in DC. Her research is focused on acquired marrow failure syndromes particularly aplastic anemia (AA), AA/PNH overlap syndrome telomere biology disorders, CHIP/CCUS and VEXAS syndrome.

She has a particular interest in developing a predictive model to determine the overall outcomes of patients with aplastic anemia post immunosuppression using pre-treatment measures via machine learning with an aim to identify patients at highest risk of progression to myeloid cancer. She has also led many translational projects and has developed a robust VEXAS clinical and translational program in Hematology Branch, NHLBI, in collaboration with NIAMS. She is a lead PI on a phase II trial for for allogeneic stem cell transplantation.
