Please Note: This is the last issue of a separate report on the Minority Programs
of the NHLBI. Information on these programs has now been incorporated in the
Fact Book of the NHLBI.
This report describes the minority-specific and -related research, training, education, and outreach programs and activities supported by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) in FY 1997. The report is published every other year.
The first section describes all active FY 1997 minority grants supported in each program area --heart, lung, and blood. Within program areas the grants are listed in alphabetical order followed by the year of implementation. The second section describes activities within each of the Institute’s national education programs that target minority populations. The appendixes contain the total FY 1997 budget for these programs and activities, a listing of NHLBI publications of relevance to minority populations, and an explanation of the abbreviations used throughout the report.
The report serves as a quick reference for individuals and organizations interested in research conducted by the NHLBI for the benefit of minority populations and the research and training opportunities available to minority individuals and institutions. It also highlights briefly major minority-specific initiatives and activities planned for the future.
