Dr. Shira Perl received her MD from Ben Gurion University in Israel. She went on to complete an Internal Medicine residency before arriving at the NIH as a postdoctoral fellow at the lab of John Tisdale where her research focused on regeneration of pancreatic beta cells for the treatment of type 1 diabetes. She continued her training at the NIH and completed a clinical fellowship in Endocrinology. After her fellowship she was promoted to a Staff Clinician in the Diabetes Branch of the National Institute of Diabetes, Digestive and Kidney Disease. Her interest in restoration of immune tolerance in Type 1 Diabetes led her to join the Center for Human Immunology in 2009.
