iPSC and Genome Engineering Core

The induced Pluripotent Stem Cells (iPSC) Core was created in 2011 to accelerate stem cell research in the NHLBI by providing investigators consultation, technical services and training in human pluripotent stem cell technology. The Core provides training and technical support in the maintenance and derivation of human iPSC cells, as well as cell culture quality control, banking and distribution. In addition to providing services to researchers from various disciplines, the Core staff also collaborates with investigators to validate new technologies, and establish unique procedures for specific projects. Research conducted by the Core seeks to better understand the mechanisms underlying reprogramming as well as to accumulate hands-on experience to optimize operating procedures. A related mission of the iPSC and Genome Engineering Core is to generate various animal models to support stem cell as well as other biomedical research. This mission is mainly carried out by the Gene-Targeting and Animal Model Unit, which is headed by Dr. Chengyu Liu and supported by Dr. Yubin Du and Wen Xie.
