Postbaccalaureate IRTA Programs
The goal of the Postbaccalaureate Reseach at HLBI is to prepare recent college graduates for a future career in research, either in Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. programs. Participants join a research laboratory for a minimum of one year and a maximum of two years. During this time, fellows are expected to submit an application for admission to graduate or professional school.
Applicants must be either US citizens or permanent residents and have graduated from an accredited College within the past two years. Positions are normally filled in the late spring and through the summer. Each laboratory at NHLBI recruits their own fellows. Therefore, potential applicants are urged to contact investigators directly explaining their interest in performing research at NHLBI. In addition to contacting investigators, applications must be submitted online using the link for provided for Postbaccalaureate IRTA applications, which enters your application into a searchable database. While not absolutely required, priority is given to applicants whol have some prior research experience in the area of the laboratory. Applicants without such experience are generally unsuccessful. While applications may be filed at any time, early applications (the beginning of your final semester) are encouraged.
