NHLBI Recognizes Star Award Recipients

By: Dr. Elizabeth Nabel, NHLBI

Tuesday, September 15, 2009

Dr. NabelLast week the NHLBI leadership team recognized numerous members of the NHLBI staff for the key role they played in maximizing the investment in science through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA). Their hard work, spent managing and tracking grant applications, coordinating peer review meetings, providing scientific program support, and developing information technology tools, was deserving of merit.

To receive a NHLBI Star Award, nominees demonstrated excellence in support of ARRA. Nominations were submitted by the Division/Office/Center Directors and reviewed by the NHLBI Awards Advisory Committee before final approval.

Each award recipient received an engraved crystal heart with the NHLBI logo and the words, “Star Award.”

The NHLBI employees were also recognized for “Excellence in Mentoring” and “Excellence in Administrative and Technical Support.” This year, 15 percent of NHLBI staff or 264 awardees received 347 individual and group awards. The awards events were held on September 8 and 9.
