Travel and Lodging Information
On behalf of the NHLBI, our logistics support contractor, the American Institutes for Research (AIR), will send you logistical information regarding long distance and ground transportation, hotel accommodations, and per diem approximately one week after the meeting registration ends on March 22, 2010.

Getting to the Conference
The Natcher Conference Center (Building 45) is located on the main campus of the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. The NIH, like all Federal government facilities, has security measures in place to ensure the safety of all employees, patients, and visitors.

All visitors must go through a security screening, so please allow extra time to get on campus. You will need to show valid government-issued photo identification (i.e. driver's license, passport, or other government agency ID). Read complete details regarding NIHs security screening.

Because visitor parking is severely limited, you are encouraged to take public transportation. The Metrorail subway system external link has a station (Medical Center) on the NIH campus.

Getting to DC

By Air
The Washington, DC area is served by three major airports:

Travel time from all three airports to the Bethesda-area hotels and the NIH campus is approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour.

By Train
Union Station external link serves the Washington, D.C. area. It is approximately 45 minutes to Bethesda-area hotels and the NIH campus from the station.

By Taxi
From Ronald Regan Washington National Airport: 21 miles to NIH; fare is approximately $40
From Dulles International Airport: 28 miles to NIH; fare is approximately $50
From Baltimore/Washington Thurgood Marshall Airport: 35 miles to NIH; fare approximately $70

Airport Shuttle to NIH or Hotel
In most cases, airport shuttles will cost less than a taxi. Several shuttle services, including the three listed below, operate to and from the local airports. Directions to NIH Campus
Metrorail service is available from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and from Union Station (railway). Take Metro's Red Line to the Medical Center station. The station's escalators come out on the NIH campus. Please proceed to the NIH Gateway Center, which is located adjacent to the Medical Center station.
