Procedures:

  1. Pass out copies of the "Animal Bedrooms" worksheet. Ask your students to read it to themselves, or have your students take turns reading the sentences out loud. You can also read the worksheet out loud to your students.
  2. Ask your students if they can think of other strange places that animals sleep. Ask your students if their pets sleep in any strange places.
  3. Pass out copies of the "How Do You Sleep?" worksheet. Again, you can ask your students to read it to themselves, have your students take turns reading the sentences out loud, or read the worksheet to them.
  4. Pass out the paper and crayons, or markers. Ask your students to draw their own bedrooms. Make sure they include all the items that help them sleep at night (nightlights, stuffed animals, pillows, blankets, and so on). When their drawings are complete, ask students to share their work with the class.

Discussion Questions:

  1. What would happen if you had a loud cuckoo clock in your bedroom? What about a buzz saw? Would the noise help you sleep or not?
  2. Imagine that your bed was made of stone, would you sleep better or worse? What if your bed was made of twigs?
  3. How well would you sleep if your bedroom was really cold? What if your bedroom walls were made of snow or ice?
