Thanks to subcontract funding from the COPD Learn More Breathe Better campaign, the Lung Association talked with and distributed educational information about COPD to attendees at the "National Night Out Against Crime" Festival. Attendees completed pre- and post-surveys to gauge their knowledge of COPD, as well as took a spirometry test provided by the Lung Association.

The Lung Association also had on display a jar of tar, a jar of mucus, and a small model to show what healthy lungs, lungs with cancer, and lungs with emphysema look like. Participants were also allowed to pop a balloon to win a prize. The popping of the balloon represented the loss of air sacs in the lungs when damaged by tobacco smoke and/or other toxins.
We send out our special thanks to American Lung Association in Virginia's Team & Volunteers, as well as the Galax Police Department, who helped make this event a success.
Country Conquers COPD Learn More Breathe Better® is an awareness campaign of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute.
