Researchers from the Preventing Overweight Using Novel Dietary Strategies (POUNDS LOST) study, funded by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, found similar weight loss after six months and two years among participants assigned to four heart-healthy diets that differed in their proportions of fat, protein, and carbohydrate. Findings from this study were published in the February 26, 2009 issue of New England Journal of Medicine.
