Eat Healthy, Save Money
"Stations, the following is a news announcement. Suggested lead in 3, 2, 1…"
(INTRO): "With a little bit of planning, food that’s good for you can be kind to your wallet as well. That’s the word from a public education program for parents of children ages eight to thirteen called We Can!—Ways to Enhance Children’s Activities and Nutrition.
Karen Donato, with the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute of the National Institutes of Health, offers tips to help parents get the most out of grocery shopping."
(DONATO): "First, make a plan. With a meal plan and a shopping list, you can get most food items in one trip and save money. Second, check out the unit price and the nutrition facts label to compare similar foods. Third, try store brands. Finally, don't shop hungry—you are more likely to make unhealthy choices that you'll regret later."
