The New Health Machine: Exercise
The Ramírez family just got their new “health machine.”
Mariano: The instructions say you have to “insert the tube perpendicular to the main axle of your Health Machine. Then tighten the two lateral screws...”
Carmencita: I told you, mamá, my friend Ana lost 10 pounds, and her machine isn't even a shadow of ours ...
Néstor: I hope it's easier to use than it is to put together!
Doña Fela: Hi everybody! I just took a brisk 30-minute walk with the neighbor and I feel like a 20-year-old again. What's this? Are you building a missile to send me to the moon?
Carmencita: It's the new exercise machine, Grandma.
Doña Fela: Life is good, but you have to keep active. You have to move.
Two hours later...
Néstor: The real exercise is to assemble it!
Doña Fela: Exercise machines usually give excellent results, but you don't have to wait to be able to buy the latest model to start getting in shape.
Doña Fela: To stay in shape, all you need is discipline and the desire to live a happy life.
Doña Fela: Take the stairs! Walk! Dance! Stay active!
Doña Fela: Keep active. Get 30 minutes of physical activity every day. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!
An Unsettling Surprise: Prevent High Blood Pressure
Virginia: Marianooooo! Did you take your high blood pressure pills, dear?
Mariano: Yesss, Virginia! Why do you ask, my dearest?
Virginia: For no reason, my love, no reason at all. You know what the doctor said. If you stop taking them, you could have a stroke.
Doña Fela: My son loves to practice his favorite sport. There he is navigating the channels on his remote control. How is he not going to have high blood pressure?
Door bell rings.
Carmencita: My God, that must be Lolo! You'll see, mamá, he's so handsome.
Virginia: Mariano, fix your collar! What will our little girl's boyfriend think?!
Mariano: What?... Who?... Whose boyfriend?
Doña Fela: We might lack certain things in this house, but emotions, we always have more than enough of.
Carmencita: Lolo, this is my father. Papa, this is Lolo. Papa?... Do you feel OK?
Mariano: Thinking “How can my daughter fall for this kid?”
Doña Fela: Mariano, I found your pills, and you haven't taken them. If you don't take them, you will not get to enjoy your grandchildren.
Doña Fela: If you have high blood pressure, you can control it. Take your pills, cut down on salt and sodium, watch your weight, and be more active. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!
The Crossword Puzzle: Lower Cholesterol
Mariano: This pie is delicious.
Virginia: I'd like a piece, too, Mariano.
Carmencita: Just give me a tiny piece. All that cream... it's too much saturated fat for me.
Virginia: This crossword puzzle gets harder every day.
Néstor: I can solve it, mamá. Just give me the clue.
Carmencita: They call him the King of Crossword Puzzles, mamá.
Virginia: A 10-letter word. Foods high in saturated fats make this go up, and some people have a high level.
Doña Fela: In this house, we eat too many foods high in saturated fats every day and do not get enough physical activity. What a family!
Mariano: Food rich in fats...?
Néstor: I have it – “gordura!”
Carmencita: Don't be silly, Néstor, “gordura” has only seven letters.
Doña Fela: “Gordura”?... Saturated fats?...Ten letters and some people have it too high?
Mariano: Ten letters... Why are you looking at me that way?
Doña Fela: “COLESTEROL!” With this pie so high in saturated fat, our cholesterol levels will rise.
Virginia: Bingo! “Co-les-te-rol.” Exactly, Doña Fela!
Doña Fela: Know your cholesterol level and protect your heart. Eat less saturated fats. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!
I Don't Like That Boy At All: Watch Your Weight
Virginia: Carmencita, I don't like that new boyfriend of yours at all.
Carmencita: Oh, but mamá, he's gorgeous.
Virginia: Néstor, can you pass me more rice?
Néstor: Papa, can you pass me more ham?
Mariano: That kid is strange. Mamá, can I have some more beans?
Doña Fela: While they tear apart my granddaughter's boyfriend, they are eating too much. It's proof that this family doesn't lose its appetite, even under the most dramatic of circumstances.
Néstor: You should've invited him, little sister. Come on, be good and pass me more butter...
Carmencita: Don't get into this, Néstor. Lolo graduated with honors from engineering school. The fact that he's a modern guy doesn't mean that he is a loser...
Mariano: Pass me more sauce!
Carmencita: Pass me...
Virginia: Please, would you pass me the salt again?
Néstor: Pass me...
Doña Fela: Would you allow me to speak?
Doña Fela: My dear family, don't you realize that if you eat so much, you will get fat? Pass me more of this ... pass me more of that. We are what we eat, and this family is eating enough for a family of ten.
Doña Fela: To prevent heart disease, watch your weight, serve yourself small portions, and eat foods lower in fat and calories! An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!
The Big Game: Quit Smoking
Television: Ladies and gentlemen, it's getting tense. Carlos Cartin is near the gate. The goalie advances, he falls. Carlos Cartin touches the ball and...
Mariano: Goooooal! Gooooooal!
Néstor: Goooooal! Gooooooal! We won, Dad! We won!
Doña Fela: Nobody wins until you both stop smoking. Don't you know what smoking is doing to your health and to the health of the entire family. Keep your promise!
Néstor: Your grandmother is right.
Mariano: What one promises...
Néstor: one must fulfill.
Doña Fela: Now we are all winners!
Doña Fela: You put your life and your family's life at risk when you smoke. Break the habit now. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!
