In fall 2007, We Can! held two regional trainings: one in Carson City, Nevada, and a second in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. One hundred nine people attended the Carson City training, which was co-hosted by the Carson City Park and Recreation Department and the Washoe Tribal Health Center. Over 150 people attended the Harrisburg training, which was co-sponsored by Pennsylvania Advocates for Nutrition and Activity, and their parent organization, the Institute for the Collective Advancement of Activity & Nutrition at the Penn State College of Medicine.
Jim DeLine, CATCH Kids Club trainer, leads participants in an activity at the Fall 2007 We Can! regional training in Harrisburg, PA.
Together, these trainings involved participants from 24 different states and the District of Columbia. Participants represented a broad range of organizations, including schools, tribal organizations, community-based organizations, government agencies, parks and recreation departments, health-care settings, and faith-based organizations.
Marianne Glass Miller, a writer and editor at NICHD, presents the "Six Media Questions," one of the key components of the Media Smart Youth curriculum.
Participants found the sessions active and engaging, and appreciated learning about ways to adapt new activities to their individual needs. Many of the participants took what they learned back to their communities with them—23 new community sites signed up at the trainings, and over 50 more joined the We Can! movement soon afterward.
