Activity Ideas

To help women learn how to manage their risk for heart disease, The Heart Truth® encourages women to invite loved ones to do something heart healthy and share advice From the Heart, For The Heart. Want to plan a heart healthy event in your community but not sure how to get started? Here are some tips for planning and conducting events to raise awareness about heart health in your community and/or office.

  1. Share advice and gifts #FromTheHeart with those you love through social media and by hosting your own community event utilizing ideas From the Heart  for inspiration.

  2. Wear red and encourage your friends, family or coworkers to do the same. Organize a group photo and share on social media using the hashtag #FromTheHeart.

  3. Organize a "Wear Jeans if You Wear Red" promotion on National Wear Red Day® (which takes place in February of every year) or hold a contest for the "Best Red Outfit" at your workplace. Use the #FromTheHeart hashtag to congratulate your contest winner through social media.

  4. Organize a "heart healthy lunch day" with your friends, family or work colleagues. Arrange for catering or coordinate a potluck luncheon. Direct your caterer or potluck guests to select recipes from Keep the Beat™ Recipes: Deliciously Healthy Dinners.

  5. Organize walking groups before or after work or during your lunch break, in the spirit of women's heart health.

  6. Host a "brown-bag" or "red bag" lunch at your workplace or community event, utilizing The Heart Truth Speaker's Kit pdf document(PDF 3.46MB) and The Heart Truth community video featuring real women affected by heart disease.

  7. Organize a "Red Attire Evening" or "Red Dress Luncheon" and serve a creative menu of heart healthy foods.

  8. Organize free heart health screenings at a community venue.

  9. Ask local stores and restaurants to display National Wear Red Day posterspdf document(206KB), and/or offer discounts to customers wearing red on National Wear Red Day.

  10. Ask your local library to set up a special exhibit featuring heart health materials about women and heart disease.

  11. Organize a Red Dress Seminar/Health Fair.

  12. Ask local gyms or sports clubs to distribute heart healthy materials and information.

  13. Organize a local Red Dress® fashion show.

  14. Organize a Red Dress Sunday celebration or other faith-based activity at your place of worship.

  15. Partner with local beauty salons and spas to exhibit and reinforce the message that women need to take care of themselves both inside and out.

  16. Plan a The Heart Truth Wear Red community walk to raise awareness of women's risk for heart disease.
