Ana lives with her mother, who has diabetes. Ana is grocery shopping and wants to buy foods that are lower in calories to help her mother.
Look at the food labels. Help Ana select foods that are lower in sugar.
Which foods should Ana buy?
- Whole oat cereal (serving size 1 cup, sugars 1g) or chocolate puffs cereal (serving size 3/4 cup, sugars 13g)?
The serving sizes of the cereals are not the same because cereal serving size is determined by weight (ounces), and some cereals weigh more than others.
- Gelatin (serving size ¼ cup, sugars 19g) or sugar-free gelatin (serving size ¼ cup, sugars 0g)?
- Fat-free, no-sugar-added ice cream (serving size ½ cup, sugars 4g) or regular ice cream (serving size ½ cup, sugars 17g)?
- Guava nectar (serving size 340mL, sugars 48g) or water (serving size 240mL, sugars 0g)?
Note: Percent Daily Values are based on a 2,000-calorie diet. Your Daily Values may be higher or lower depending on your calorie needs.
