NHLBI Research Training and Career Development Programs

The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), a major supporter of research training and career development programs at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), offers opportunities for training in all the Institute's research program areas. All programs have been carefully designed to meet the goals and research training needs of both the Institute and the individuals participating in them. Taken together, the programs provide support at all stages in the professional development of researchers. Some encourage the early stimulation of research interests among high school students, while others are aimed at developing research skills among graduate students, supporting postdoctoral research careers, and enabling established investigators to acquire new research skills. The goal of these research training and career development programs is to develop independent research investigators in the areas of cardiovascular, pulmonary, and hematologic health and disease, and sleep disorders.
