Research Supplements to Promote Diversity
in Health-Related Research for
High School Students
This supplement
enables principal investigators with eligible NHLBI research
grants or contracts to include high school students in their
projects. Priority is given to applications requesting support
for individuals from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups,
individuals with disabilities, and individuals from disadvantaged
backgrounds.
The research activity proposed for the student must be part
of the approved research for the parent grant or contract,
or a logical extension. The student must be given opportunities
to interact with other individuals on the study and to contribute
to the study.
The program is designed to support high school students who
express an interest in the biomedical, behavioral, clinical
or social sciences, and who will devote at least 2 years (two
3-month periods) to the program. Support should be requested
for at least 3 months during any year.
