NHLBI Implementation of the NIH Policy on Sharing of Data Obtained
in NIH-Supported or -Conducted Genome-Wide Association Studies (GWAS)

The NIH Policy for Data Sharing Obtained in NIH -Supported or -Conducted Genome -Wide Association Studies (GWAS) was announced in notices posted on August 15, 2007 in the NIH Guide for Grants and Contracts and the Federal Register. The policy is effective for competing applications and proposals submitted on or after January 25, 2008 and all subsequent standard receipt dates, including submission for on-going Funding Opportunity Announcements (FOA’s) issued prior to January 25, 2008. Regardless of proposed budget amount, all GWAS applications must include a plan to submit data to NIH’s Database of Genotype and Phenotype (dbGaP) or explanation for why submission is not possible.
