Angel S. Byrd, a former NHLBI-supported Jackson Heart Study Scholar and current M.D./Ph.D. candidate at Brown University, will be appearing on BET to talk about her biomedical career path and inspire other students to consider research. The program, "33rd Annual UNCF An Evening of Stars," is set to air this Sunday, Sep. 25, at 10 p.m. Eastern.

In addition to NIH support, Angel received a Gates Millennium Scholarship from the United Negro College Fund (UNCF), which funded her undergraduate education at Tougaloo College in Mississippi as well as part of her graduate studies at Brown. She recently also earned a UNCF/Merck Graduate Science Research Dissertation Fellowship, which will help her finish her doctorate.
