The NIH is seeking exceptional candidates for the position of Director, NHLBI, to provide global leadership for research, training, and education programs that promote the prevention and treatment of heart, lung, and blood diseases so that individuals can live longer and more fulfilling lives. This position offers a unique opportunity for the right individual to provide strong and visionary leadership to an organization dedicated to uncovering new basic and clinical knowledge and technologies, and to ensuring that rigorous science guides the appropriate use of existing treatments.

Applicants must possess an M.D. or Ph.D. degree, have senior-level research and administrative experience, and have knowledge of research programs in one or more scientific areas related to diseases of the heart, lung, and blood. Applicants are expected to be nationally and internationally known and respected professionally as distinguished individuals of outstanding scientific competence. Candidates should be able to demonstrate management of substantial financial and human resources including managing a culturally diverse staff using fair and equitable staffing/recruitment practices.
