On March 26, 2010, the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute recognized employees and contractors for their exceptional service to the institute. In a ceremony in Natcher Auditorium, NHLBI Acting Director Dr. Susan Shurin bestowed 196 Merit Awards and 17 PAROS Awards (Partnership Award in Recognition of Outstanding Support). Aided by masters of ceremony Tim Wheeles and Sally McDonough, Dr. Shurin congratulated fifty-six employees for their length of service, including seven employees who have served in the federal government for 30 years and four employees who have served for 40 years. Special recognition also went to Tim Baldwin for being selected as the HHS 2010 Federal Engineer of the Year from a pool of more than 96,000 engineers, and to CDR Thomas Herndon for his outstanding service.
