Congratulations to the National Collaborative on Childhood Obesity Research (NCCOR), one of six winners of the inaugural cycle of the HHSinnovates awards – and one of three top choices personally selected by HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, who announced the winners on August 4.
The HHSinnovates program was developed to recognize innovators throughout the Department and to share their accomplishments. For this first cycle, employees across HHS nominated more than 100 innovations and submitted more than 10,000 votes.
Launched in 2009, NCCOR is a unique example of how federal agencies are working with each other and with private partners to reduce and prevent childhood obesity across the nation. The collaborative includes the NIH, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and the United States Department of Agriculture.
The NHLBI is one of six participating NIH Institutes and Centers. With support and input from NCCOR members, the NHLBI will soon launch a $23 million study to evaluate community programs to reduce childhood obesity.
Special thanks to NHLBI staff who are contributing to the success of NCCOR:
A call for nominations for the next cycle of the HHSinnovates awards program will be made October 15 – start thinking about how your programs are innovative!
